About Richard.

Richard was born in Hampshire in 1946. Most of his working life he has been a skilled tradesman using his hands. He worked at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, up until retirement, working his way up to Trade Co-ordinating Officer. He was then responsible for a team who looked after the fabric of the hospital, maintaining structure, plumbing, electrical etc.
Now in semi-retirement, Richard has the time to explore his current passion for wood carving. Richard started by attending a local wood carving club and learnt the basic skills from his fellow club members. After practising on some early pieces, Richard found he could turn his hand to carving birds, owls and other wildlife. All his work is produced from a small workshop at his home. Richard has also explored the use of different woods in order to use the individual grain patterns to achieve subtle effects in the pieces he has carved.
Richard is a member of the Wessex Guild of Craftsmen and also a regular contributer to the Hampshire craft fairs, and exhibitions, held in the county throughout the year.
